Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

If you become injured or ill and are hospitalized, your health insurance will pay a portion of your costs. But no plan pays for everything. Your share of the hospital bill with coinsurance, copays and deductibles could be costly—let alone the extra out-of-pocket expenses that might occur.

With Group Hospital Indemnity Insurance, you receive cash benefits for covered hospital stays and expenses to help offset the hospital bill, take care of day-to-day expenses, or pay for anything you need. Plus, this insurance offers these advantages:

  • Pays a daily benefit amount of $100/day/hospital stay, up to 10 days, under the Low Plan, and $150/day/hospital stay under the High Plan. Pays this lump sum cash benefit directly to you and is paid in addition to your medical insurance. Additional benefits include: Pays a First Day Hospital Confinement benefit of $1,000 under the Low Plan, and $1,500 under the High Plan.
  • Affordable employee group rate and your premium is conveniently deducted from your paycheck.
  • Guaranteed–issue provided you enroll during the Enrollment Period.
  • Flexibility to use the benefit money to address out-of-pocket-expenses like transportation and meals for family members, help with child care, or time away from work.
  • Ability to keep your coverage if you leave your employer (with certain stipulations)

You, your spouse/domestic partner, and eligible children qualify for this coverage.

Thanks to your employer’s group rates, you could pay less for this insurance than you would for individual insurance you’d find on your own.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance Summary

How It Works

Answers about the plan, including eligibility, options, enrollment, customer service and more.

  • Who is the provider?

    Allstate Benefits

A leading provider of employee benefits.

Allstate Benefits is the marketing name used by American Heritage Life Insurance Company (Home Office, Jacksonville, FL), a subsidiary of The Allstate Corporation.

  • How can this help me?

Hospital Indemnity Insurance pays a daily benefit if you have a covered stay in a hospital, critical care unit or rehabilitation facility. The benefit amount is determined based on the type of facility and the number of days you stay. Hospital Indemnity Insurance is a limited benefit plan. It is not health insurance and does not satisfy the requirement of minimum essential coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

    Benefits of the plan include:

    • First Day Hospital Confinement
    • Daily Hospital Confinement
    • Hospital Intensive Care

Below are a few examples of how your Hospital Indemnity Insurance benefit could be used (coverage amounts may vary):

    • Medical expenses
    • Travel, food and lodging expenses for family members
    • Child care
    • Everyday expenses like utilities and groceries
  • Who is eligible?

You and your eligible family members must enroll during your enrollment period, and you must be actively at work for your coverage to be effective. Dependents to be enrolled may not be subject to a medical restriction as set forth on the enrollment form and in the Certificate. Some states require the insured to have medical coverage.
  • When can I enroll?

Enrollment is limited to the company's annual enrollment period.
  • What if my employment status changes?

When you leave or retire from your current employer, you can continue your coverage without interruption, subject to applicable law and the policies' terms and conditions. Although payroll deduction will no longer be available if you retire or leave your company, you can opt for other payment methods, if available, such as direct checking or bank account deduction, credit card billing or home billing. Higher rates may apply.

Retirees turning age 65 and who currently have direct bill coverage through Alight will need to be ported to direct bill through the carrier.

  • Will my rates increase as I get older or if I file a claim?

No, your rates will not increase due to age, health or individual claims.
  • Will I have to take a medical exam to get this coverage?

This coverage is guaranteed-issue (which means you may qualify for coverage without having to submit to a medical exam or answer health questions).
